What's the story

One of the most popular Netflix Original series, Stranger Things, is all set to slowly wrap up. The makers on Thursday revealed the upcoming fourth season of the science fiction show will be the penultimate one, alongside releasing its new posters. Further, Stranger Things 4 will come out in two parts (like Money Heist) this year. Read on to find out all we know.

Context

Why does this story matter?

One of the greatest success stories for Netflix, Stranger Things enjoys a massive fan following. Featuring a band of teens fighting a bunch of aliens in the 1980s, the makers have taken their sweet time in bringing us Season 4. The season's first teaser was released way back in November 2020 and now, two years later, we'll finally get to see the end product.

Posters

'Every ending has a beginning,' goes the tagline

Four new posters featuring old and new characters at iconic locations like The Lab, The Creel House, California, and Russia were released Thursday. These revealed Stranger Things 4 Volume 1 will premiere on May 27, while Volume 2 will release on July 1. The posters also carry the tagline: "Every ending has a beginning," hinting that the end to this saga will begin now.

Letter

Creators left note for fans, calling S04 'most challenging season'

Creators of the show—the Duffer Brothers aka Matt and Ross Duffer—also left an open letter to the fans online. "With nine scripts, over eight-hundred pages, almost two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots, and a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season, Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding one (sic)," it read.

Future

'Stranger Things' spin-offs are also coming

Noting the season was being divided into two parts because of its "unprecedented length," the makers once again hinted that spin-offs will be born in this universe. Earlier, Netflix's co-CEO Ted Sarandos had said that Stranger Things is a "franchise being born." But, first, we will need to see how the tale of Eleven, the small town Hawkins, and its brave soldiers ends.
