What's the story

Huma Qureshi is currently enjoying the success of two back-to-back hit shows on OTT platforms. Her latest series, Maharani Season 4 and Delhi Crime Season 3, are both trending on their respective streamers. In an exclusive interview with Moneycontrol, the actor spoke about the overwhelming love she's been receiving for her performances in these shows. "The love I'm getting right now for both these characters is unparalleled, and it's really special," she said.

Character insights

Qureshi's characters in 'Maharani' and 'Delhi Crime'

In Maharani 4, Qureshi plays Rani Bharti, a character she has portrayed since the show's inception in 2021. The actor described Bharti as "strong" and "believes in justice." In Delhi Crime 3, she plays Meena aka Badi Didi, a cold-hearted human trafficking queenpin. "I'm loving the love, the appreciation, the reviews, the fact that both the shows are trending number one," she said.

Role preparation

Qureshi's preparation for 'Delhi Crime 3'

Qureshi revealed that getting the accent right was crucial for her role in Delhi Crime 3. She had to "unlearn a few things as to how I will speak or as how I would talk." The physicality of Meena came from an understanding of trauma and the character's dismissive style. "We talk about good touch; bad touch. Badi didi keeps touching these girls...because she wants to keep roughing them up," she explained.

Character evolution

She confirmed there will be a fifth season of 'Maharani'

Qureshi believes her character in Maharani has evolved over the seasons. "This season has seen a different version of her; she's now really come into her own; she's become a full political animal." She also confirmed that there will be a fifth season of Maharani. "Four years, 4 seasons, and the love keeps growing. Very honoured to play this character, there will be a season five of Maharani," she said with a broad smile.

Personal stance

Qureshi's views on politics and her characters

Despite her success in portraying a politician in Maharani, Qureshi has no interest in real-life politics. "I'm not interested in politics at all," she said. She also emphasized that she doesn't take inspiration from anyone while performing her characters, but focuses on the script and understanding the text's context. Notably, she can also be seen in Jolly LLB 3, a film that recently had its OTT debut.
