Homayoun Ershadi, the beloved Iranian actor best known for Taste of Cherry and The Kite Runner, has passed away at 78 after a battle with cancer.
He was born in Isfahan, studied architecture, and even spent time living in Vancouver before returning to Iran, where he transitioned into acting.
A look at his career
Ershadi's acting career kicked off when he was nearly 50, after a director spotted him by chance.
His first major film, Taste of Cherry (which won big at Cannes), launched him onto the world stage.
Over nearly three decades, he appeared in more than 90 films—including international hits like The Kite Runner and Zero Dark Thirty—earning respect for his depth and versatility on screen.
