'Lahore 1947' to be renamed? Rajkumar Santoshi is against it
What's the story
The release of Rajkumar Santoshi's historical drama Lahore 1947, based on Asghar Wajahat's play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Ni, has been mired in uncertainty. The film has seen multiple announced release dates, with no clarity on its premiere. Now, reports suggest that the film may be released under a new title due to its current name being derived from a Pakistani city. But the director is against it.
Director's stance
'I am not in favor of this kind of appeasement'
Santoshi has opposed the idea of changing the film's title. He told Bollywood Hungama, "You have to ask my producer Aamir Khan when Lahore 1947 is releasing. As for changing the title, I am totally against it." "Of course, it is the producer's call. But I am not in favor of this kind of appeasement." "I've waited for almost 20 years to make this film. You could call it my dream project."
Actor praise
Santoshi on Deol, Azmi's performances
Santoshi expressed his belief that he was meant to make Lahore 1947 with Sunny Deol, who plays the lead role. He said, "He brings an arresting fusion of the classic and contemporary to the screen." The director also praised Shabana Azmi for her performance in the film. "Believe me, there won't be a dry eye in the audience after watching her in my film," he said. The film was originally set to come out after Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par.
