Here's what Lata Mangeshkar said about Ranu Mondal's video

It hasn't been long when Ranu Mondal made her way from being a beggar to an overnight Internet sensation after she sang Lata Mangeshkar's Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai. While all are going gaga over Ranu's voice and her newfound stardom, Lata also gave her reaction. The legendary singer expressed her happiness but with reservations, saying imitation won't help Ranu in the long run.

Statement
"If anyone gets benefited from my work I feel fortunate"

In her recent interview, Lata was quizzed about Ranu's growing popularity, courtesy her iconic number. To this, she stated, "If anyone gets benefited from my name and work then I feel fortunate." However, she also emphasized that imitating anyone's style isn't a "reliable and durable companion for success." "By singing iconic songs aspiring singers can get short-term attention. But it won't last," she added.

Advice
The singer must seek and find his/her own song: Lata

The veteran singer also asserted that it is important for the aspiring singers to focus on having their own individual singing style to leave a mark in the industry. "Be original. By all means, sing the evergreen songs by me and my colleagues. But after a point, the singer must seek and find his or her own song," Lata was quoted as saying.

Recording
Meanwhile, Ranu has recorded three songs with Himesh Reshammiya recently

Meanwhile, Ranu's viral video has certainly been life-changing for her. She is currently living an incredible life, and has recorded three songs with Himesh Reshammiya for his upcoming movie, Happy Hardy and Heer. Himesh also shared glimpses of Ranu's recording session on his Instagram page, and thanked her fans for supporting her. "Her versatility and confidence are growing with each song," he added.

Criticism
Ranu's daughter criticized for being negligent towards her mother

On the other hand, Ranu's estranged daughter Elizabeth Sathi Roy has been facing public flak for deserting her mother in a helpless condition. However, Sathi defended herself saying that she had no clue about Ranu singing at the railway station. She also clarified that despite her own struggles (Sathi is a single mother), she had tried supporting her mother as and when possible.

Quote
"I've tried to support Ma in whatever way I could"

"I have tried to support Ma in whatever way I could. I would take food and money for her every time I went to meet her. Maybe I couldn't stay with ma, but I've taken care of her as much as I could," Sathi said.
