'Out of breath...': Sanjay Dutt opens up about his cancer journey

Entertainment

Sanjay Dutt recently shared how he first realized something was wrong during the COVID-19 lockdown:
"It was a normal day in lockdown. When I walked up the stairs, I was totally out of breath. I had a bath, I couldn't breathe, I didn't know what was happening, so I called up my doctor," he recalled.
That moment led to tests and a diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer.

How it started and what happened next

Dutt's X-rays showed fluid in his lungs, and after ruling out tuberculosis, doctors confirmed lung cancer in August 2020.
With both his mother and first wife lost to cancer, the news hit hard.
He hoped to get treated in the US but couldn't due to visa issues; instead, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan connected him with Dr. Sewanti Limaye in Mumbai, who started him on precision immunotherapy with chemotherapy.

Fighting back—And bouncing back

Even during treatment, Dutt kept himself active by cycling and playing badminton—showing serious mental strength through it all.
By October 2020, he announced he was cancer-free and called it "the best birthday gift" for his twins.
Since then, he's jumped right back into movies like Baaghi 4 and Dhurandhar—proving resilience really does make a comeback possible.
