Parmeet Sethi reveals son almost played Kuljeet in 'DDLJ' musical

Parmeet Sethi, who essayed Kuljeet in Aditya Chopra's 1995 romantic classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, has revealed that his younger son Ayushmaan was almost cast in the same role for a stage adaptation. The news was shared during a YouTube Live session on Sunday to celebrate their family channel AAAP Ka Parivaar reaching one million subscribers.

Sethi revealed that his son had auditioned for the role of Kuljeet in Come Fall in Love, a Broadway adaptation of DDLJ. "He was shortlisted for the role... He almost got it," Sethi said. However, Ayushmaan revealed he was rejected because he didn't have enough experience in Western classical singing. "They wanted someone who was experienced in Western classical singing for a long time." "I have some experience in it, but not as much as they wanted."

The stage adaptation of DDLJ, titled Come Fall in Love, marks Chopra's directorial debut on Broadway. The musical features Jena Pandya as Simran and Ashley Day as Rog. It had its UK premiere at Manchester Opera House on May 29 and ran until June 21. The original film, released in 1995, catapulted Shah Rukh Khan to superstardom and also starred Kajol, Amrish Puri, Mandira Bedi, Anupam Kher, and Farida Jalal, among others.
