Entertainment
Peter Snape, who represented West Bromwich East for about 27 years, has died at age 84.
Known as "clever and funny and sharp as a tack" and speaking with "the authentic voice of lived experience," he started out as a railwayman before entering Parliament in 1974 and later moved to the House of Lords.
Railwayman turned Labour frontbench spokesperson
Snape's journey took him from working on the railways and serving in the army to becoming a Labour whip and frontbench spokesperson.
He never forgot his working-class roots, stayed loyal to Stockport County FC (even joining its board), and recently married former MP Lynda Waltho.
He is survived by his wife and his two daughters.
