Oscars 2019: 'Raazi', 'Padmaavat' to be India's official entries?

As we get closer to Oscars 2019, the Indian Film Industry looks firmly determined to bag the golden trophy in 'Best Foreign Language' Category this time. Though Rajkummar Rao-starrer 'Newton', which was India's official entry to Oscars 2018, couldn't bag an award, it has definitely boosted the confidence of our filmmakers for winning the award. Here are the top contenders for India's official entry.

    Announcement to be made today

Twenty-eight films are nominated for the top spot and the announcement will be made today, i.e. September 22. Reportedly, India's official entry for Oscars 2019 will be made at the IMPPA House.

    'Raazi', 'Padmaavat', 'October' or 'Manto'?

'Raazi' and 'Padmaavat' aren't the only films on the top. Varun Dhawan and debutante Banita Sandhu-starrer 'October' and Nandita Das's 'Manto' starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, which hit the theaters yesterday and is winning hearts, are also among the top contenders, according to a Pinkvilla report. 'PadMan', '102 Not Out', and Mrunal Thakur, Freida Pinto and Richa Chaddha's 'Love Sonia' are part of the list too.

    The regional cinema list

Coming to the regional cinema list, Marathi films 'Bogda', 'Nude', and 'Gulabjaam' made it to the top along with Gujarati films 'Reva' and 'Best of Luck Laalu'. Tamil films, 'To Let' and 'Kolamavu Kokila' and Assamese film 'Village Rockstar' are also in the race.
