'Ramayana': Ranbir Kapoor confirms double role as Ram, Parshuram
What's the story
Ranbir Kapoor, who recently unveiled the first look of his character Rama from Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, has confirmed that he will be seen in a double role in the film. The actor will not only play Rama but also Lord Parshuram, an avatar of Vishnu. Speaking to Collider, Kapoor said, "Lord Vishnu had different avatars. Lord Rama is one avatar, and Lord Parshuram was an avatar before Lord Rama, and just to get the opportunity to play both was fantastic."
Actor's insight
Kapoor spent a year preparing for the role
Kapoor revealed that he spent a year understanding both the characters. He said, "I think as an actor, apart from body language, I think if you deeply understand the spirituality and the emotionality of the characters, I think everything starts from there." "I think that's what I did the year leading up to the shoot of Ramayana, to understand who these people and characters are, what they stand for and what their motives are."
Role responsibility
It's a responsibility that you're carrying on your shoulders: Kapoor
Kapoor also spoke about the responsibility of playing a character like Lord Rama. He said, "It's a responsibility that you're carrying on your shoulders." "You can't really play him; you are representing your tellings, your version of Lord Rama." "So the responsibility, the intention, the faith, and the beliefs that I have as an actor and as an Indian toward this story about Lord Rama, I think that's where it all begins." The film will release on Diwali 2026.
