'The Glory' actor Park Jia (52) dies after cerebral infarction
Renowned South Korean actor Park Jia, who starred in the Netflix series The Glory, has sadly passed away at 52. Initially, an acquaintance revealed to a media portal that the South Korean actor was hospitalized due to a cerebral infarction but unfortunately didn't make it. Her death was later confirmed by her agency BILLIONS in an official statement on Monday (September 30).
What is cerebral infarction?
A cerebral infarction or an ischemic stroke is a type of stroke. According to Mayo Clinic, it "occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is blocked or reduced. This prevents brain tissue from getting oxygen and nutrients. Brain cells begin to die in minutes."
BILLIONS expressed deep sorrow over Park's demise
BILLIONS shared their grief over Park's death in an official statement. The agency stated, "We are deeply saddened to deliver this heartbreaking and unfortunate news. Park Jia passed away today (September 30) at 2:50am KST after battling a cerebral infarction." They also announced that the funeral hall has been set up in Room 2 at Asan Medical Center, with the procession scheduled for Wednesday (October 2).
Park's acting career and legacy
Park kicked off her acting journey in 2002 with The Coast Guard. She really caught everyone's eye with her role as Jung Mi-hee, the mother of Moon Dong-eun (played by Song Hye-kyo), in The Glory (2022-23). BILLIONS shared their condolences, saying they will "forever remember the passion for acting that [Park] cherished until the very end."
