'What a waste of time': Eddie Murphy on 2007 Oscar loss

Entertainment

Eddie Murphy, in his new Netflix documentary Being Eddie, opened up about feeling angry and upset after losing the 2007 Oscar for Best Supporting Actor to Alan Arkin.
Even though he was a favorite for Dreamgirls, Murphy said the real frustration wasn't just losing—"The mindf*** for me is that I get dressed and come to the thing... What a... a waste of time."

How did it all play out?

Murphy had already picked up big awards like the Golden Globe and SAG for his role in Dreamgirls, so many expected him to win the Oscar too.
That night, Jennifer Hudson (his co-star) won her own Oscar.

Murphy's take on winning and losing

Looking back, Murphy keeps things in perspective: winning feels nice but doesn't define him.
"I'm still Eddie in the morning," he shared—a reminder that awards don't change who you are at your core.
