'Very subjective': Yami addresses Deepika's '8-hour workday' demand
What's the story
Actor Yami Gautam and her Haq director Suparn Verma recently addressed Deepika Padukone's demand for an eight-hour workday. Speaking to Times Now, Verma said such arrangements have been "happening for decades." "There are actors who shoot for only eight hours a day, shoot five days a week, they don't do night shoots." This, he said, is "pre-decided among the director, producer and the actor." Earlier, Padukone had also noted that male superstars have enforced such time caps for years.
Industry norms
'Whole concept of time cap, for me, is very...'
Gautam said that while a time cap is desirable, the film industry is different. "Locations, permissions, permutations, combinations, other actors, technicians, there are so many things. So this whole concept of time cap, for me, is very subjective to an actor, a producer and a director collaboration and the understanding." Verma added that actors have been following this for years and questioned why it was now an issue when a female actor raised it.
Motherhood
Once a mother, always a mother: Gautam
Gautam also emphasized the importance of motherhood, saying, "Once a mother, always a mother. Nobody is more important to a mother than her child." However, she clarified that her personal life doesn't influence her choice of scripts. "As far as my job is concerned...my personal life has nothing to do with my professional decisions."
Industry impact
What was the entire controversy about?
Padukone recently exited Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit over her alleged demand for an eight-hour workday. This led to a controversy, after which she also left Nag Ashwin's Kalki 2. Her demands were reportedly driven by her desire to spend more time with her newborn daughter, Dua. However, these requests weren't accommodated, leading to her departure from the projects. Meanwhile, Gautam's Haq will hit theaters on Friday.
