100-plus people fall ill after sewage leaks into drinking water
More than 100 people in Nabha village, Zirakpur, fell ill this weekend after sewage leaked into the drinking water supply.
The first cases appeared around September 27, with residents reporting stomach issues.
Local officials acted fast—by Saturday evening the leak was fixed and clean water was back by Sunday evening.
Authorities are now regularly testing the water
Health teams set up a medical camp for those affected, and serious cases were sent to Chandigarh's Government Medical College.
Thankfully, new cases dropped to just 15 by Sunday.
Authorities say they're now regularly testing the water and running district-wide surveys to make sure this doesn't happen again.
As Mohali's deputy commissioner Komal Mittal stated, authorities are taking all preventive measures to avoid further outbreaks.
