48 Bangladeshis caught trying to cross back into Bangladesh

India

BSF caught 48 Bangladeshi nationals trying to cross back into Bangladesh through the Basirhat border in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.
Most were domestic workers and laborers from different Indian states, reportedly leaving out of fear of being detained during a big voter list check happening in West Bengal.

Arrests part of larger crackdown

These arrests happened on November 1 and 2, as part of a larger BSF crackdown—89 people have been caught along this stretch in just three days.
The timing lines up with the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR), where officials are going door-to-door to clean up voter rolls ahead of the 2025 West Bengal elections.
Increased border security and these checks seem to have pushed many undocumented migrants to try their luck at slipping across the border.
All those caught are now facing charges under the Foreigners Act.
