Gujarat's unexpected heavy rains leave crops damaged, farmers struggling

India

Gujarat's been slammed by unexpected heavy rains, leaving crops badly damaged and farmers struggling.
To help out, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said the state government is set to announce a relief package for those affected.
The IMD blames a weakening depression over the Arabian Sea for all this rain—and says more showers are on the way.

Crop damage surveys underway

CM Patel shared that ministers have visited rain-hit areas to check things firsthand, and crop damage surveys are already underway.
As of Sunday, Gujarat had received 128% of its usual seasonal rainfall—way above normal—with cities like Porbandar and Ahmedabad seeing especially heavy downpours.
The monsoon had already brought extra rain before it ended last month, so people are bracing for even more wet days ahead.
