Airlines cancel 279 international flights due to Middle East tensions
Travel plans just took a hit. Indian airlines canceled 279 international flights on March 8 because of airspace closures and restrictions across parts of the Middle East and Gulf.
Mumbai and Delhi airports were hit especially hard, with more than 160 cancelations between them across recent reports.
Flights to and from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Jeddah (and even cities like London and Amsterdam) were affected.
Thousands of travelers stranded or rerouted
Thousands of travelers are now stranded or rerouted on longer paths. Airlines like IndiGo and Air India have paused many Middle East and Europe routes for now.
Airlines are operating extra recovery flights starting March 9, while the government is coordinating the response and monitoring airfares.
If you or someone you know had travel plans in or out of India this week, it's worth double-checking your flight status!
