Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed his dismay over the shifting of the International Santhal Conclave venue in West Bengal. Majhi slams TMC government
Majhi slammed the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal for the last-minute changes. In a post on the social media platform X, he said such actions "cannot be dismissed as mere 'logistical issues.'" The CM emphasized that events celebrating tribal heritage should be respected and celebrated, not obstructed, adding that the Office of the President stands above political differences and embodies the dignity of the Constitution.
Presidential response
President Murmu expresses displeasure
President Murmu also expressed her displeasure over the venue change and the absence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee earlier. She said, "Had the program been held there (at Bidhannagar, Darjeeling), it would have been better." The President questioned why the state administration did not permit the meeting at Bidhannagar.
Political controversy
Banerjee hits back at President
In response, Banerjee accused President Murmu of speaking "on BJP's advice" and questioned her silence on tribal issues in other states. The West Bengal CM also said the timing of Murmu's visit came during a politically sensitive time for the state. She also said that the event was not organized by the state government and that Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb represented them.
