Assam Police enforce beef ban, multiple detentions

Assam Police have launched a fresh wave of raids against illegal beef sales, acting under the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021—which bans cattle slaughter and beef sales near temples or in Hindu-majority areas.
The crackdown has stretched across districts like Guwahati, Nagaon, and Kokrajhar, leading to major seizures.

TL;DR

Emphasis on law and peace

This push follows recent communal tensions during Eid, when 16 people were arrested for alleged illegal cattle slaughter.
In one raid alone, over 70kg of suspected beef was seized in Guwahati's Katahbari area.
Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized that while everyone's religious rights matter, breaking the law "will be dealt with strictly."
The state is aiming to keep peace amid sensitive times.
