BJP leader fakes disappearance to 'teach police a lesson'

India

Here's a wild one: Pritam Singh Kisaan, a former BJP district president from Uttar Pradesh, vanished for 55 days after being detained over a petrol pump dispute which he considered an insult.
Turns out, he staged his own disappearance just to make a point to the police.
His brother filed a petition, and the Allahabad High Court ordered authorities to find him—which kicked off quite the search.

What happened next?

The court's orders led to an intense hunt, even checking out the petrol pump but coming up empty.
Eventually, Singh was found safe at his Lucknow home and brought before the court.
For security reasons, he's staying at an old-age home for now and is in police custody until December 16.
Despite all this drama, Singh remains an influential political figure in Bundelkhand and rejoined the BJP in 2022.
