Cab driver steals gold from passenger's home after overhearing conversation
A Bengaluru cab driver, Abdul Rehman, was arrested for breaking into a passenger's home and stealing gold jewelry worth ₹25 lakh.
Rehman had picked up Syed Akram and his son for a ride to the railway station, overheard them talking about their three-day trip and gold kept at home, and used this information to return that night, break in through a window, and steal 180gm of gold.
Investigators checked CCTV footage and spotted Rehman's car
When the family came back on February 16 and found their house ransacked, they filed a police report right away.
Investigators checked CCTV footage and spotted Rehman's car circling the house eight times in a single day; the break-in occurred around midnight.
The stolen gold was traced to pawn shops in Shivajinagar and KG Halli, plus some acquaintances in Vellore.
Rehman had been involved in three previous theft cases. He is now back in judicial custody.
Police are reminding everyone to avoid sharing travel or valuables information with strangers during cab rides.
