Chhattisgarh man force-feeds wife urine, makes child participate
What's the story
A woman in Chhattisgarh's Koriya district has accused her husband of torturing and humiliating her in front of their children. The accused Jitendra Ghasia allegedly tied his wife Tara's hands and feet, shaved her head, blackened her face with soot and engine oil, beat her up, and forced her to drink urine while their children watched in fear. The couple has four children together.
Background
Ghasia tracks Tara to friend's house
The alleged incident took place on June 14 when Ghasia tracked Tara to the residence of an acquaintance who had helped her in difficult times. She had been living separately from her husband due to years of marital discord, abuse, and financial strain. Tara worked as a domestic helper to support herself and her children. She informed the police that after calling her outside, her husband began assaulting her and accused her of having affairs with other men.

'Threatened that I would be burned alive'
"He....shaved my head, blackened my face with soot and engine oil, beat me and forced me to drink urine. I was threatened that I would be burned alive," she alleged. She claimed that her children were forced to participate in the humiliation. According to her account, her husband told the children to slap their mother repeatedly, even forcing one of the children to force her to drink pee, before the accused himself allegedly forced her to drink his urine.
Legal action
Initial FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
Initially, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Ghasia under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. These included Section 85 (Cruelty by husband), Section 115(2) (Voluntarily causing hurt), Section 296 (Obscene acts and abuse), and Section 351(2) (Criminal intimidation). However, after the video emerged and further investigation was done, more serious charges were added.
Court proceedings
More legal provisions being added after video came to light
Koriya Additional Superintendent of Police Suresha Chaubey said more legal provisions are being added after the video came to light. Tara has denied Ghasia's allegations of her abandoning their family for another man. She claims he suspected her character for years and regularly assaulted her. "I was beaten earlier too. They suspected me from the beginning. They also demanded dowry. After giving birth to four children, I underwent sterilization. I want justice and I want him punished," she said.
