Delhi airport races to fix air traffic glitch after massive delays
India
Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport is speeding up upgrades to its air traffic control (ATC) systems after a major tech glitch on November 6, 2025, caused chaos for over 900 flights.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has moved the upgrade deadline up to January 2026—months earlier than planned—to avoid a repeat.
What's changing and what's next
AAI is rolling out a new Aeronautical Message Handling System (AMHS) to replace the old setup that relied too much on one switch—a risky single point of failure.
The new system should be running in about two months, with staff training happening alongside.
In the meantime, AAI has installed backup servers and switches and put temporary safeguards in place. These measures are intended to prevent similar disruptions.
