Doctor suicide: Accused cop arrested; probe on in-service dismissal
A 28-year-old government doctor was found dead by suicide in a Phaltan hotel room on October 23. The post-mortem confirmed death by hanging, with no external injuries.
In a note written on her palm, she accused sub-inspector Gopal Badane of repeatedly raping her and software engineer Prashant Bankar of mental harassment.
Her family and police sources stated that she had also complained earlier about police pressuring her to alter medical and autopsy reports, a claim that is currently under investigation.
Both accused arrested, investigation ongoing
Both Badane and Bankar have been arrested—Badane for sexual assault and both for abetment of suicide.
Badane surrendered, was suspended, and then dismissed from service for "unethical, indecent, and irresponsible behavior."
The investigation is still going, with police searching for missing evidence like Badane's hidden phone and analyzing call records to piece together what happened.
