Dr. Prathap Chandra Reddy, a renowned cardiologist, is one of the most famous doctors-turned-entrepreneurs in the country. He is the Founder and Chairman of the Apollo Hospitals Group, India's first corporate chain of hospitals that introduced international quality healthcare; it was established in 1983. Reddy, acknowledged widely as "architect of modern Indian healthcare", was also honored with Padma Bhushan (1991) and Padma Vibhushan (2010).
Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, a reputed cardiac surgeon, is another popular doctor-turned-entrepreneur in India. He is the Founder and Chairman of Narayana Health (formerly known as Narayana Hrudayalaya), a chain of multi-specialty hospitals, heart centers, and primary care facilities, in Bengaluru in 2000. He was awarded the Padma Shri (2004) and Padma Bhushan (2012) for his contributions to affordable healthcare in the country.
Dr. Syed Sabahat Azim, a doctor and a former IAS officer, is a healthcare entrepreneur. Dr. Azim, a 2000-batch IAS officer, is the Founder and CEO of Glocal Healthcare Systems. It was incorporated in 2010 and is based in Kolkata. Glocal Healthcare Systems aims to make quality healthcare services accessible to the rural population by setting up low-cost yet efficient hospitals.
Dr. Sunita Maheshwari and Dr. Arjun Kalyanpur - two Yale University-trained physicians - are a doctor couple who founded Teleradiology Solutions Group. They established the Bengaluru-based company in 2002. It provides teleradiology services like CT, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and echocardiograms to more than 150 hospitals across 21 countries, including the US, Singapore, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, and remote parts of India too.
Dr. Saurav Das is another doctor turned entrepreneur who is one of the founders of Chennai-based NewDigm Healthcare Technologies. He is the Co-Founder and Head of Medical Strategy of the company, which provides public health, technology, socio-cultural solutions for people in rural and remote locations.
