Flood alert in Villupuram after Veedur dam water release

Villupuram district has put out a flood alert after releasing water from Veedur Dam into the Sankaraparani River, following days of heavy rain due to Cyclone Fengal, which weakened into a deep depression over Tamil Nadu.
Officials have reduced the dam's discharge to around 3,000 cusecs as things remain under control for now.

Ten nearby villages are at risk of flooding, and locals are being urged—via loudspeakers—to stay away from the river and keep up with official updates.
