Himachal Pradesh scales back out-of-state vehicle entry tax after protests
Himachal Pradesh has decided to scale back its new vehicle entry tax for out-of-state vehicles, just hours before it was supposed to kick in.
The move follows strong protests from transporters and political parties, who argued the tax was unfair, especially for people traveling in from neighboring Punjab.
The government says this update is part of a bigger plan to modernize old taxes, with some perks for electric vehicles too.
Himachal sets flat ₹100 car fee
If you are driving a regular five- to 12-seater car into Himachal, you will now pay a flat ₹100 fee instead of the higher rates that were first proposed.
Charges for commercial busses and heavy trucks are still going up, though.
There is also a new rebate scheme for folks living near the border — if you are local and can prove it, you might get some relief from these fees.
