Delhi- IAS trainee drowns while saving friend

What's the story

Thirty-year-old trainee IAS officer Ashish Dahiya drowned in a swimming pool in South Delhi's Ber Sarai while trying to save a drowning friend. The ace swimmer, hailing from Sonepat, was at a poolside party at the Foreign Service Institute along with other IFS and IRS officials. The mishap happened after a woman trainee slipped and fell into the pool.

The woman was pulled out safely, but people noticed Dahiya was missing. "He was found floating in the pool soon after," said Chinmoy Biswal, Additional DCP. Attempts were made to administer him CPR. Afterwards, he was taken to Fortis in Vasant Kunj, where he was declared brought dead. Guests at the party had reportedly consumed alcohol. The body was shifted to AIIMS for post-mortem.
