IIT Bombay student's ID misused in disturbing scam
Abhishek Gill, an IIT Bombay student, found out his college ID photo was stolen and used in a scam targeting female JEE aspirants.
Someone pretended to be him online, claiming they could leak JEE exam papers—but only if the victims sent nude photos.
The case has people talking about just how risky it is to share personal info online.
How the scam worked
The impersonator grabbed Gill's photo from the internet and messaged students as "Abhishek Kumar from IIT Bombay CSE."
One alert victim realized something was off and reached out to Gill directly.
After learning about it, Gill deleted his original post and urged everyone not to share their IDs or personal details online.
Myth that helped the scam
Gill's story quickly spread on social media, with many shocked at how easily identities can be misused.
It also brought up that old myth—people still believe IIT students have access to leaked JEE papers—which scammers keep taking advantage of.
