India prohibits certain imports from Bangladesh
India has just banned jute products and fabrics from Bangladesh through all land border ports—think things like raw fibers and woven fabrics.
The only way these goods can now enter is via the Nhava Sheva seaport in Maharashtra.
Bangladesh exports jute worth $1 billion annually
This move could shake up $12.9 billion in annual trade between the two countries, especially since both compete in textiles.
Goods passing through India to Nepal and Bhutan are still allowed, but they can't be sent back into India.
The ban follows recent diplomatic tensions, including earlier restrictions on Bangladeshi garments and food, and comes as both nations tighten trade rules against each other.
