India set for record rice production in 2025-26 season

India's rice production is headed for an all-time high of 151 million tons next season, according to the US Department of Agriculture. That's a small bump from last year but a solid 11% above the five-year average, thanks to steady farmland and record yields, with favorable conditions reported by late May.

Wheat also on track for a record 117.5 million tons

It's not just rice—wheat is on track for a record 117.5 million tons too, helped by good irrigation and soil moisture in key states. Meanwhile, India's grain reserves are looking strong, with rice stocks at nearly 38 million tons and unmilled paddy at over 32 million as of June. All this keeps India firmly on the map as a major player in global grains.
