India to train 57 lakh people for mining jobs

India

India is planning a major initiative to train 5.7 million people for mining jobs by 2030, all under the new National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM).
The idea? Get more of the minerals we need for clean energy right here at home, so we're not so dependent on imports—especially from China.
A special committee will look at what skills are missing in the workforce and share its action plan by March 2026.

More job opportunities in the mining sector

This mission isn't just about training—it's also about growth.
The government wants mining to boost its share of India's GDP from 2.2% to 5% by 2030.
As Pankaj Satija from the Skill Council for Mining Sector put it, "We have a target of training 57 lakh people in the next seven years."
If all goes well, this could mean more job opportunities and help power India's shift toward clean energy.
