Indian Army's strong message to Pakistan, assaults Pak's outposts
  • Addressing a press conference on May 23, the Indian Army said it is carrying out "punitive fire assaults" on Pakistani military outposts that were assisting cross-border infiltrators into India.

"Recent actions in Naushera have caused damage to Pakistan army posts," Major General Ashok Narula said.

The Indian Army "proactively dominates" the LoC, Narula added, iterating peace in Jammu and Kashmir is the motive.

Action after Indian jawans were beheaded by Pakistani teams
  • This comes after two Indian jawans were beheaded by the Pakistani Border Action Team earlier this month. Pakistani army provided cover while the team mutilated their bodies.

Later, Vice Chief of Army Staff Sarath Chand said the army "will focus on our action at a time and place of our choosing".

There have been other similar dastardly acts by Pakistan amid strained bilateral ties.

  • Narula, chief of army's public information wing, said the army is apprehensive about a possible increase in infiltration attempts once the snow melts and passes reopen.

The assault was also an attempt to "bring down the number of terrorists in Kashmir so that local youth are not encouraged to take up arms".

The army released video footage of outposts being blown up.

  • Last year, when India carried out similar assaults in November, the Pakistani DGMO had requested an urgent "unscheduled hotline interaction" with his Indian counterpart to discuss the matter.

With this move, New Delhi has sent out a strong message that it would react firmly and strongly to anti-national acts by Islamabad.

It is also likely to worsen already-deteriorating relations.
