Indian Railways shows off Vande Bharat Sleeper's 1st AC coaches
Indian Railways just showed off the First AC coach design for its upcoming Vande Bharat Sleeper train at IREE 2025.
Created by Kinet (an Indo-Russian joint venture), these coaches come with cushioned berths, personal reading lights, USB charging ports, snack tables, and clever under-stair storage—making overnight travel a lot more comfortable.
Train can seat up to 823 passengers
The 16-coach train can seat up to 823 people, with a mix of First AC, AC-2 tier, and AC-3 tier coaches.
It's self-propelled and can reach speeds up to 180km/h (though it'll usually run at 160km/h).
Expect modern touches like automatic doors, free Wi-Fi, bio-vacuum toilets, CCTV cameras, and talk-back units for added safety.
Production starts soon at the Latur factory
Production kicks off soon at the Latur factory.
Each trainset is capped at ₹140 crore (~$17 million), but ticket prices are still under wraps.
Compared to Rajdhani or Duronto trains—which do not typically offer amenities like Wi-Fi or USB charging—the Vande Bharat Sleeper aims to be a faster, comfier pick for premium overnight journeys on long-distance routes.
