India's Ajit Doval due in Beijing for 25th boundary talks
India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is scheduled to arrive in Beijing on Monday for the 25th round of boundary talks with China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
These meetings are all about sorting out long-standing border issues along the 3,488-kilometer stretch between the two countries.
India-China talks precede Xi's BRICS visit
The timing matters: these talks happen just before Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit India for the BRICS summit next month.
It's a chance for both sides to cool tensions and keep things peaceful, especially after reports of aggressive posturing by Chinese troops in Arunachal Pradesh's Upper Subansiri region in recent weeks.
India has firmly repeated that Arunachal is "an inalienable and integral" part of the country, with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar saying peace at the border is crucial if India-China ties are going to get any stronger.
