India
With IndiGo canceling flights due to new safety rules, tons of people have switched to sleeper busses for intercity trips—especially on busy routes like Hyderabad-Mumbai and Bengaluru-Hyderabad.
High airfares and unavailable train tickets have made bus apps like redBus and AbhiBus a popular backup option for stranded flyers.
Bus bookings jump, fares follow
Between December 5 and 8, redBus saw seat bookings climb by 17%, with some routes in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana spiking up to 30%.
This rush led bus operators to raise prices—some fares even tripled, according to Prasanna Patwardhan from the Bus and Car Operators Confederation.
AbhiBus also reported a 10-15% booking increase on popular routes like Pune-Hyderabad.
