IndiGo flight chaos sends airfares soaring

India

If you tried booking a flight out of Delhi recently, you probably noticed prices were through the roof.
IndiGo canceled over 700 flights nationwide—including all departures from Delhi for a day—due to crew shortages and new work rules.
This left travelers scrambling and fares on popular routes skyrocketing.

Price spikes and packed alternatives

With so many cancelations, demand shifted fast.
One-way tickets from Delhi to Chennai shot up to nearly ₹66,000, while flights to Mumbai or Kolkata crossed ₹38,000.
Even multi-stop journeys hit ₹71,000 as trains filled up and other airlines increased their prices too.

Passengers frustrated; DGCA steps in

Unsurprisingly, passengers flooded social media with complaints about both the chaos and the crazy fares.
The Civil Aviation Minister has now asked the DGCA to keep an eye out for unfair pricing.
IndiGo admits there are issues and plans to cut back more flights from December 8 but hasn't yet addressed why ticket prices have spiked so much.
