Iran-Israel conflict escalates; PM Modi monitors situation, talks with ministers
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken stock of the tense situation in West Asia, after U.S.-Israel airstrikes that Iran said killed top Iranian leaders.
Iran hit back with drone and missile attacks across the Gulf, causing airspace shutdowns and travel chaos.
India has around 10,000 citizens in Iran
With around 10,000 Indians (including several students) still in Iran, the government has set up a dedicated control room/helpline (operating 9 a.m.-9 p.m.) and kept embassies running to help anyone stranded.
Modi is urging calm and pushing for dialogue over conflict.
But there's an economic side too: India relies on energy from this region, and disruptions, like Qatar halting LNG shipments, could mean pricier fuel back home.
The government is worried about long-term impacts if things don't cool down soon.
