Karnataka: Students protest 3-year freeze on government job recruitment

India

In Dharwad, Karnataka, students took to the streets on Thursday, frustrated by a three-year freeze on government job recruitment.
Led by the All Karnataka State Students's Association (AKSSA), they called for immediate hiring and age relaxation for those who've now missed their shot because of the delay.
The group also flagged errors in the Kannada version of the latest KAS recruitment notification and demanded it be fixed.

Protest gains traction, police meet students

The demonstration drew even more attention thanks to social media buzz and coaching centers, which government sources said may have played a role in fuelling the agitation.
Dharwad's Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar met with protestors and promised to take their concerns up with higher-ups.
For many young people in Karnataka, this protest is seen as being about more than just paperwork—it's about wanting real opportunities and fair chances at government jobs after years of waiting.
