Lalu accused of coercing officials for job appointments

The CBI says former railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav pressured officials to hand out railway jobs to people who gave or sold land to his family at throwaway prices.
This allegedly happened between 2004 and 2009, with Group D jobs given out quietly—no public ads.
In one case, Yadav reportedly handed over a list of 120 names and pushed hard for their appointments.

Case filed in 2022; 3 charge sheets submitted so far

The CBI filed the case in May 2022 and has named Lalu, his wife Rabri Devi, three children, and over 80 others—including officials—as accused.
So far, three charge sheets have been filed against more than 90 people.
The court took up the case in March 2025 and granted bail on ₹50,000 bonds after noting strong evidence linking job appointments to land deals.
The trial is ongoing; Lalu's defense hasn't responded yet.
