Lawyer representing gang rape accused rapes survivor during court visit
Jitendra Singh, a 40-year-old Agra lawyer, was arrested two days after the incident, on Saturday, for allegedly raping a 24-year-old woman who had survived a gang rape in 2022—a case where Singh represented one of the accused.
The incident happened on Thursday in a hotel room when the survivor came to attend her court hearing.
Singh broke both legs while attempting to escape
Singh reportedly convinced the woman to meet at a hotel, saying he wanted to help mediate her case.
During the trip, he served her alcohol and later returned to her hotel room under the pretext of discussing legal matters.
He then locked the door and allegedly assaulted her.
The survivor managed to escape by asking for water and filed a police complaint soon after.
When police tried to arrest Singh two days later, he attempted to flee by jumping from a neighbor's rooftop—breaking both legs in the process—before being taken into custody and receiving medical care.
Investigations are ongoing.
