The Pre-matric Scholarships Scheme for Minorities
For school students belonging to minority communities like Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, and Parsi, the Minority Affairs Ministry awards Merit-cum-Means Pre-Matric scholarship schemes. School students of Classes 1-10, government or private, who've scored at least 50% in the previous final examination and whose annual family income doesn't exceed Rs. 1 lakh are eligible. The rate of scholarship is up to Rs. 8,500/annum.
#2: Government's Pre-matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD) offers the Pre-matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities for students of Classes 9 and 10. The scheme offers maintenance allowance, book grant, and additional disability allowances which add up to Rs. 14,600 a year.
Department of Science and Technology's Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana
The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana Fellowship is another scholarship offered by the government that school students can avail. The scheme comes under the Department of Science and the Technology and Government of India. Candidates selected for the program are provided with a generous fellowship and contingency grant. Students of Classes 11 and 12 can appear for the scholarship exam.
Nationwide Education and Scholarship Test (NEST) Junior
The Nationwide Education and Scholarship Test (NEST) Junior is another popular scholarship for school students. It is available for students of Classes 9-12. A written exam is conducted on the basis of which students are awarded a cash prize of up to Rs. 50,000. Registrations for NEST-Junior 2019 are now open; the test would be held on July 28.
