Maharashtra cancels Uber, Ola, Rapido's bike taxi licenses
Maharashtra has canceled the provisional licenses for Uber, Rapido, and Ola bike taxis across Mumbai and nearby areas.
Announced by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, this move may prevent these popular apps from legally operating their bike taxi services in the region until further orders or resolution.
Authorities have taken action against illegally operating 2-wheelers
The crackdown happened after officials found these companies breaking key rules, like starting up before getting full approval, and not using only electric bikes, as required.
Since April 2024, authorities have taken action against illegally operating two-wheelers and collected fines exceeding ₹33 lakh.
The state says it's also responding to safety concerns and complaints about illegal operations.
Next up: a meeting with company execs to decide what happens going forward.
