Maharashtra: Floods ruin crops in Konkan, pest outbreaks reported

India

Late October brought unusually heavy rains to Maharashtra, flooding paddy fields and ruining crops just before harvest—especially in the Konkan region.
Over one lakh hectares of farmland have been affected, with many farmers also battling pest outbreaks thanks to the constant wet weather.

Damage stretches across Konkan, Pune, Nashik

The damage stretches across Konkan districts like Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Palghar, and Thane—as well as places like Pune and Nashik.
This comes after a monsoon season that saw rainfall way above normal.
The state government says it's assessing the losses and will compensate farmers who've been hit hardest by this tough season.
