Maharashtra government calls out Union minister's IIT Bombay comment

Union Minister Jitendra Singh stirred controversy by saying, "Thank God it still is this name. You have not changed it to Mumbai," while talking about IIT Bombay at a recent event.
MNS chief Raj Thackeray called the remark anti-Mumbai, and many saw it as disrespectful to the city's identity.

State leaders push back, want a name change

Maharashtra's Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar made it clear the state "disowns" Singh's views.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis wrote to the Centre expressing his disappointment and said he'll urge PM Modi and the education ministry to officially rename IIT Bombay as IIT Mumbai.
