Maharashtra just okayed a massive ₹58,754cr sea link connecting Mumbai to Palghar
Big news for Mumbai commuters: Maharashtra has cleared the first phase of the Uttan-Virar Sea Link, a ₹58,754 crore project set to connect the city's western suburbs with Palghar.
The goal? To make travel smoother, support the new Vadhavan Port, and improve connectivity along the coast.
What's actually being built?
The MMRDA is taking on a 55km stretch—think a 24km sea bridge plus nearly 31km of connecting roads linking Uttan, Vasai, and Virar.
If all goes as planned, the project is expected to enhance connectivity in about five years.
How's it getting paid for?
The state will chip in over ₹11,000 crore (mainly for land and taxes), while MMRDA handles the rest through loans and its own funds.
Since it's a public utility project, it skips some red tape—and yes, tolls are likely so it stays financially healthy.
