What's the story

Actor Siddhanth Kapoor, the brother of Bollywood star Shraddha Kapoor, was summoned by the Mumbai Police in connection with a ₹252 crore narcotics case. His name surfaced during the interrogation of Mohammad Salim Shaikh alias Lavish, an alleged major narcotics supplier who was recently deported from Dubai. An officer confirmed to the Indian Express that Kapoor appeared before them on Tuesday morning to record his statement. News agency ANI also shared visuals of the actor arriving before the Anti-Narcotics Cell.

Investigation progress

Kapoor's statement being recorded, Orry to appear next

The officer added, "We are currently recording his statement." Apart from Kapoor, several other high-profile names have emerged in this case, including social media influencer Orhan Awatramani (Orry), politician Zeeshan Siddique, and actor Nora Fatehi. Orry was earlier summoned but couldn't appear as he was out of town. He is now scheduled to record his statement on Wednesday morning.

Statement verification

Police verifying Lavish's claims against Kapoor and others

The police are currently verifying Lavish's claims that these celebrities attended parties where he supplied drugs. Based on the investigation and evidence gathered, they will decide who will be named as accused or witnesses in the case. More people named by Lavish will be summoned to record statements in this ongoing investigation by the Anti-Narcotics Cell.

Drug trafficking case

Lavish's arrest and connection to larger drug network

Lavish was arrested in the ₹252 crore Sangli mephedrone seizure case after being brought back from Dubai in October. He was reportedly the right-hand man of drug lord Salim Dola, overseeing mephedrone production across at least seven states. The police had previously managed to get Dola's son Taher and nephew Mustafa Kubbawala deported between June and July this year.
