Maharashtra mandates Hindi as 3rd language in schools

Maharashtra is making Hindi a must-learn third language for students in classes 1-5 at both Marathi and English medium schools.
This move follows national education guidelines, but not everyone's on board—many feel it's forcing Hindi into classrooms by the back door.

TL;DR

Will this decision really help kids?

Some educators and language advocates worry this will sideline local languages.
Deepak Pawar from the Mumbai-based Marathi Bhasha Abhyas Kendra called it a blow to Maharashtra's linguistic heritage, while others wonder if schools can really offer alternatives if just 20 students ask for another Indian language.
The decision also goes against earlier government assurances that Hindi wouldn't be made compulsory, leaving many feeling let down by the sudden change.
