Manoj Jarange begins hunger strike in Jalna demanding Maratha OBC
India
Manoj Jarange, a leading voice for Maratha reservation, is starting a hunger strike on August 29 at Antarwali Sarati in Jalna.
He's pushing for the Maratha community to get OBC status, which would mean access to reserved spots in education and government jobs.
Even after a delegation of Maharashtra ministers, Shambhuraj Desai, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, and Uday Samant, met Jarange and appealed to him not to proceed with the agitation, Jarange says he's sticking with his plan.
Ministers urge Manoj Jarange to reconsider
Three Maharashtra ministers met Jarange recently, hoping he'd reconsider and talk things out instead of going ahead with the protest.
But Jarange insists the community's demand needs attention.
