On Friday, banker-turned-politician Meera Sanyal died after a brief illness. She was reportedly suffering from cancer for the past two years. She was 57. She had joined the Aam Aadmi Party after quitting her job as the chief executive of Royal Bank of Scotland. In 2014, she unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha election from Mumbai South constituency.

A bit about Sanyal's life
Notably, Sanyal was the daughter of Indian Navy officer Gulab Mohanlal Hiranandani, who had played a key role in Operation Trident, during the 1971 war with Pakistan. Sanyal graduated from Sydenham college Mumbai in 1982 with an MBA from INSEAD, France in 1983. In her 30-year-long banking career, she rose to prominent heights. Sanyal had also served as the COO of ABN AMRO, Asia.
